Your basic needs are food, clothing, and shelter. Oh yeah and the internet too. Self-Actualisation state occurs when you don’t have to worry about basics. Meaning ‘You Probably are living a comfortable life!’ (Just Google Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.)
Now, When you are in a happy state of mind, free from worry you notice that:
- Work is not hard, In fact, you look forward to challenging work.
- It’s easy to handle cranky children.
- Let go of the person who nicked you in traffic.
- Are able to have a healthy discussion with a colleague or boss without feeling offended.
Counter that when you are low and down –
- You wake up groggy.
- Do your chores mechanically.
- You feel lethargic when working.
- You feel fatigued sooner.
- You feel sad often.
The sheer effort is so much higher. The same set of activities when done without stress in a happy state of mind, are easy peasy.
Don’t be fooled and think mental health is only for the rich.
Mental health is a basic need without which you will always struggle to go up the Hierarchy. (Whether Maslow’s or Life).
